The College has received a major grant under the Irvine
Foundation’s Campus Diversity Initiative. The grant will support
student fellowships for three years beginning in summer 2003. The
fellowships are meant to enable students to participate in
collaborative research with faculty, in any field. In line with the
goals of the Initiative, special consideration will be given to
applicants who belong to a traditionally underrepresented group, who
are the first generation in their families to attend college, who
receive substantial financial aid, or who propose to do research on
diversity on campus or in the surrounding communities. (Five
fellowships are available, $3,750 stipend plus
$500 for research expenses, student/faculty travel or faculty
stipend.)
Applications should include
1. A two- to three-page research proposal that clearly
indicates the focus and significance of the proposed research; the
kinds and locations of the sources to be examined; and the
expected outcome of the project.
2. A one-page preliminary bibliography.
3. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member, including
a brief statement of qualifications to do the proposed research.
4. An official transcript.
5. The venue in which research results will be presented (e.g.,
Poster Conference in Fall 2005, dept. forum
...).
6. A detailed budget if requesting research supply funding
($500 maximum).
Deadline for Submitting Proposals
