These programs provide a grant to a
student to pursue his/her own research agenda with
frequent and substantive faculty interaction. Stipends
will be $4000 for ten weeks of research. In addition,
students may apply for up to $500 for supplies, travel,
or subject payments. Research involving human subjects
must be approved by the Pomona College IRB. All
continuing Pomona faculty are eligible as mentors, as
are faculty in the five-college academic programs.
During the term of the award, students are expected to
engage in full-time research. Students with independent
research grants must present the results of their
projects at the Pomona College 2007 Summer Research
Poster Conference early in the fall semester or at
another suitable venue. In addition, they must submit a
research report, approved by the faculty mentor, to the
Research Committee by May 1, 2008. These grants are
available to students in any field of study. Proposals
that resemble independent study courses will not be
funded.
We deeply appreciate the financial support for summer
research assistantships and summer research grants
provided by the Elgin Fund for Summer Student Research
and The Paul K. Richter and Evalyn E. Cook Richter
Memorial Funds.
