History Professor Samuel Yamashita will read from and
discuss his
acclaimed book Leaves from an Autumn of Emergencies, in which World War
II-era Japanese diaries are translated.
Coriolanus with Martha Andresen in DC -
April 21
Professor Emerita of English Martha Andresen will be in Washington, DC, to
speak with alumni on Shakespeare's classic,
Coriolanus, at a
pre-performance reception at the Kennedy Center.
Andean Highlands Talk in Orange County - May 5
Anthropology Professor Ralph Bolton '61 will be in Orange County with
one of his current students to discuss their volunteer work last summer assisting
communities in the
Andean highlands of southern Peru.

With two weeks atop the U.S. box office charts, Stomp the
Yard, a movie about step-dance competitions between Black
fraternities and directed by
Sylvain White '98, has been one of the top
grossing films of 2007.
Chandra's Sacred Games has book world abuzz
In his 916-page epic novel Sacred Games, which is climbing up the
bestselling lists and earning praise from critics, author
Vikram Chandra
'84 tells a multi-layered story of crime and punishment set in Mumbai.
Turrell's unique Skyspaces span the globe
With three dozen of his Skyspaces installed around the world, and
another one scheduled to be unveiled on the Pomona College campus this
October,
James Turrell '65 has people looking up.

President David Oxtoby recently announced the appointment of
Caltech's
Miriam Feldblum as the new dean of students, succeeding Ann Quinley, who
will retire on June 30 after 15 years at Pomona College.
