Help Shape Pomona's Future
Pomona College has begun an important process of strategic planning to help set priorities for the College over the coming decade. Faculty-led task forces are developing new ideas and plans in seven areas: the Arts, Civic Engagement, Health and Fitness, Interdisciplinary Programs, International Studies, Research Culture, and Teaching and Learning. We're seeking your input in the process.




Overseas Sagehens Gather at Pub in London – November 25
Spending Thanksgiving weekend abroad doesn't have to be a letdown. Music Professor Graydon Beeks '69 invites all Pomona alumni, students, parents, and friends to join him at The Lamb, a popular London pub. 

Professor Yamashita in Hawaii – December 2
Join your fellow alumni at the Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu as History Professor Samuel Yamashita discusses his new book, Leaves from an Autumn of Emergencies: Selections from the Wartime Diaries of Ordinary Japanese.

Pink Martini Concert in Seattle – December 28
Treat yourself to an eclectic musical experience - attend the Pink Martini concert with your fellow alumni at The Paramount Theatre. Premiere seating includes validated parking, complimentary appetizers and a no-host private bar.

Olivet's Future Looks Bright at Oakley
Scott Olivet '84 is the new CEO and director of Oakley, the famous maker of sunglasses, ski goggles and other products, succeeding Oakley, Inc. founder and CEO Jim Jannard.


Payton Named to Board of Trustees

Noted civil rights attorney and 2005 Commencement speaker John Payton '73 was recently elected to the Pomona College Board of Trustees. He received national recognition a few years ago for serving as lead counsel for the University of Michigan in two landmark Supreme Court cases concerning diversity in higher education.

Scott Honored for Work on International Space Station
The Society of Women Engineers has honored Karen P. Scott '87 with the 2005 Resnik Challenger Award for her leadership and technical contributions in developing a special glass portal used in scientific research aboard the International Space Station.

 


Women's soccer and men's cross country are conference champs

The men's cross country team topped its conference for the third consecutive year, with five Pomona-Pitzer runners placing in the Top 10 at the conference championship meet. Meanwhile, women's soccer took first place in its conference for the first time in 15 years.

Professor Wallace Honored by Time Magazine
Creative Writing Professor David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest recently made Time magazine's list of the 100 best novels, joining the likes of To Kill a Mockingbird and The Grapes of Wrath. Wallace joined Pomona's faculty in 2002 and is a previous recipient of a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant."

Pomona Senior's Political Blog Getting Attention
Jonathan Singer '06 is complementing his politics coursework by writing his own blog, which recently attracted its 100,000th visitor. Along with making daily posts, Singer lands interviews with big-name politicians, including Bob Dole, Wesley Clark and Michael Dukakis.

Sagehen Career Connection
New on the Alumni Portal, the Sagehen Career Connection is an online database of Alumni Career Advisors, who have agreed to share their professional and educational knowledge and experience with you.



Students, including many from the Pomona-Pitzer football team, are pitching in on a Habitat for Humanity home-building project near campus. The "building blitz," constructing six homes at once, is the local Habitat chapter's largest project ever.
