Pomona Named to List of "New Ivies"
Pomona College is one of 25 "New
Ivies" recognized in the 2007 Kaplan/Newsweek "How to Get
into College Guide." The guide also features an article by Vice
President and Dean of Admissions Bruce Poch on how to write a college
essay.


Art History in D.C. – September 30
Professor of Art History Frances Pohl will be in Washington,
D.C. September 30 to lecture on "New Directions in American Art History" and
discuss her book Framing America: A Social History of American Art.

Yamashita in Chicago – November 5
History
Professor Samuel Yamashita will be in Chicago November 5 to read from and
discuss his acclaimed book
Leaves from an Autumn of Emergencies, in
which World War II-era Japanese diaries are translated.

Biologist wins prestigious Gairdner Award
Thomas Pollard '64, chair of molecular, cellular, and developmental
biology at Yale University, was named winner of the prestigious 2006
Gairdner International Award for his research on cell mobility and human
disease.
Young Alumnus Recognized for Eco-Friendly Computer
By making the EcoSystem, an energy-efficient desktop computer,
Robert Kaufman '04 and his computer company Jinglehorse have been
nominated for the 2007
Well-Tech Sustainability Award.

Kathleen Fitzpatrick disputes the notion the television has caused the
