Because of the abilities of Pomona's students, and in order to ensure that
the entire curriculum is available to everyone,
Pomona College offers no special honors program. Students with
outstanding college records are named Pomona College
Scholars each semester in recognition of their work.
Pomona College's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, among the oldest in
California, was founded in 1914. Students with
especially distinguished records may be elected to the honor society in their
senior year, or, in exceptional cases, in their
junior year.
Students majoring in science or mathematics are eligible for
induction into Sigma Xi, a national honor society for
the sciences. Members are selected on the basis of their research.
