Every department at Pomona offers independent study for students
whose interests lie outside of regularly scheduled
course offerings. Coursework is arranged on an individual basis with a
faculty sponsor, and may be taken for either full credit
(the equivalent of one regular Pomona course) or half credit.
Many departments also offer credit for summer reading and
research, either on or off campus. As with
independent-study classes, arrangements are made individually. Pomona
offers no formal summer classes.
Guidelines for independent study are set by individual
departments, and therefore vary from field to field.
