Graduation Requirements
Attendance
If a student misses the first two meetings of a course (whether lecture, lab, or
other required activity), and the absences were not approved in advance by the
instructor, the faculty member may ask the Registrar to drop the student from
the class. However, students will not automatically be dropped from a course
they do not attend.
Course Load
First Year Students
First-year students may take a maximum of four regular courses in each semester
of the first year, with the following exception: First-year students who
completed four regular courses in the first semester with no grade lower than B
may take five regular courses in the second semester, subject to advisor
approval.
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are in good academic standing are eligible to take five full courses. (Only four courses may be added through pre-enrollment; a fifth course may be added during the add/drop period.)
Cumulative Course Load Restriction
In addition to the maximum full-time load, all students who are in good academic standing may take 1) cumulative and/or half-credit music or dance studio or physical education courses totaling no more than one course credit, or 2) two half-credit music or dance studio or physical education courses and one cumulative course.

- Juniors and seniors may enroll for one-half of their total program in any semester outside Pomona College.
- Enrollment in Claremont Graduate University courses (numbered 200 or above) requires written permission
from the instructor.

Cumulative Courses
Cumulative courses receive one-fourth course credit each. Students may receive a maximum of two course credits toward graduation from cumulative courses. See Course Load above for cumulative course load restrictions.

Dropping Courses
Students may drop courses until the deadline listed in the Pomona College calendar, upon submission of a completed Add/Drop form at the Office of the Registrar. Failure to attend class will not automatically drop a student from a course; the course must be officially dropped by submitting the add/drop form to the Registrar, with the advisor’s signature. Courses dropped on or before the drop deadline do not appear on the student’s transcript.

Duplication of Coursework
Unless a course is designated in the catalog as "Repeatable for credit" students will not receive credit for repeating a course for which they have already received credit. Credit will be withdrawn for duplicated coursework at the end of the academic year. Advisers and students should be especially careful to review whether credited transfer work completed at other colleges, or courses at the other Claremont Colleges, duplicates work undertaken at Pomona. While graduation credit will not be allowed for repeated courses, all courses attempted, and grade points earned, for Claremont Colleges courses will be computed into the student's grade point average.

Music Lessons
Students who wish to take applied music courses (music lessons) enroll through the Music Department. Once enrolled, students who wish to drop music lessons must do so at the Registrar’s Office.

Pass/No Credit Option
Freshmen and sophomores are limited to three P/NC courses per year. Juniors and seniors have unlimited P/NC options outside of their major. Students may petition their departments to take specific major courses on a P/NC basis. To qualify for Commencement honors, students must take for letter grades at least three quarters of the courses they take as Pomona students.
To declare an eligible course for the Pass/No Credit grading option, students must submit a P/NC form to the Registrar’s Office by the P/NC deadline listed in the Pomona College calendar.

Withdrawal from Courses
Students who wish to withdraw from a course after the drop deadline for the semester must present a petition to the Academic Procedures Committee. Withdrawals are allowed only in exceptional cases involving illness or emergency. When withdrawal from a course is approved, the student receives a "W" grade in the course.
