The Australian government mandates that all students studying abroad in
Australia obtain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC.) This is required before
you will be issued a Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) number from your
university which is necessary to apply for your student visa. The OSHC will
allow you to take advantage of Australia’s national health care system while you
are abroad. Coverage may be issued for the length of your visa and will be in
effect for the duration of time that you are in Australia. Pomona College will
cover the cost of your OSHC for the duration of your academic program. Keep in
mind that OSHC does not provide for medical treatment outside of Australia. If
you plan to travel outside of the country during your semester abroad, you must
insure that you are sufficiently covered by additional health insurance.

James Cook University will act as an intermediary and process your OSHC
application for you; you do not need to do anything if you deem coverage during
the dates of the academic program sufficient for your needs. JCU will bill
Pomona directly for this. If you wish to extend your insurance coverage either
prior to or following your academic program you must contact Medibank directly.

received your official letter of acceptance from JCU, otherwise they will not

Students are issued insurance cards upon arrival at JCU. Stop by the
International Student Centre to retrieve yours. For more information about OSHC, as organized

OSHC
through Medibank |

The Australian company Medibank provides OSHC. If you wish to extend your
coverage either prior to or following your academic program in
Townsville, you must contact Medibank directly to arrange this. The following
