2012 Commencement: Friday, May 11 - Sunday, May 13

The 2012 Commencement Weekend will take place from Friday, May 11, through Sunday, May 13, 2012. Commencement exercises will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2012. 

For those unable to attend, you may watch a live stream of the event here.

This year's principal speaker is U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter. Marigold Linton, director of American Indian Outreach at the University of Kansas and founder of the National Indian Education Association; jazz musician David Murray ’77; and Jonathan Veitch, president of Occidental College, will receive honorary degrees and address the audience during the ceremony. More information on the speakers >>

2012 Commencement Schedule (subject to change)

Pomona College’s Commencement weekend begins on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with the Baccalaureate Service of the Claremont Colleges, and culminates in the Commencement Ceremony and Reception on Sunday morning at 10:00.

The 2012 schedule below is subject to change, so please check this site again as May approaches.

Students and parents will receive Commencement brochures with full details at the beginning of the Spring semester.

3 p.m. Commencement rehearsal: mandatory for all graduates
3:30 p.m. Class photograph and class parade
4 p.m. Class Day program: speakers, music, academic prizes and awards
5:30 p.m. Class dinner: For all graduates, families, faculty, and staff
8 p.m. Pomona College Glee Club concert
9 p.m. Senior art exhibition and reception
Sunday, May 13, 2012
9:30 a.m. Procession assembles on Stover Walk
10 a.m. Commencement exercises: held outside on Marston Quadrangle. The ceremony lasts approximately two hours, and a reception follows.

2011 Commencement Recap

At the 2011 Commencement ceremony, held on May 15, 2011, speakers were Steven Chu, secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy (principal commencement address); Judy Burton, president and chief executive officer of the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools; Edwin Krupp '66, astronomer and director of the Griffith Observatory; and journalist and the best-selling author Douglas Preston '78.
