The College seeks an experienced, talented, good-humored professional staff member who will contribute fully to the operations of the office. Primary responsibilities include recruitment travel and planning in specified geographic areas, interviewing prospective students, review of freshman and transfer candidates, public presentations and work student talent identification organizations to encourage prospective student interest in the College. Experience in publications development and/or electronic communications is highly desirable as is experience in campus programming or work with athletic team coaches. Assistant Vice President & Director of Campus Planning & Maintenance

Under the guidance of the Vice President & Treasurer, the Assistant Vice President will lead the College’s ambitious facilities construction, renovation, and maintenance program. The Office of Campus Planning and Maintenance consists of five different departments: Planning, Maintenance, Grounds, Housekeeping, and Summer Conferences. These departments are responsible for new construction and renovation on campus; maintenance and repair of facilities; daily cleaning of all campus buildings; maintenance of the College’s landscaped areas and athletic fields; and coordination of on-campus conferences during summer months. This executive will be responsible for managing a $12 million operating budget and approximately 100 staff members. The ideal candidate will have at least ten years experience as a facilities officer with a proven record of accomplishment in positions of increasing responsibility. At least some of that experience will ideally have been in higher education. Candidates should also have demonstrated success managing major renovation and new construction projects in the context of ongoing operations and a need for active control of scope, budget, and schedule; managing Housekeeping and Grounds staff; and operating complex facilities in support of educational and/or research functions. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of all the technical components related to construction and renovation projects with the ability to interpret and translate this information to the board and other college constituents in a coherent fashion. This position also requires maintaining a high standard of customer service with the College community as well as a diplomatic and pragmatic leadership style. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Museum Coordinator

The Museum Coordinator for the Art Museum assists the Director and professional staff of the Museum in implementing the programs of the Museum, in making the resources of the Museum known and available through encouraging student engagement, and facilitating the use of collections and exhibition resources. Duties include: entering museum events into the college calendars, Pomona master calendar and Claremont Colleges calendars; sends out email announcements; purchases advertising; oversees mailing lists and bulk mailings for museum events--as many as 10 a year. Responsible for developing museum announcement systems which utilize web resources used by 5-C community and general museum audience (email list serves, RSS feeds, etc). In reach to the 5-C student, faculty and staff communities: Initiate contacts with students to develop student events and works with student groups on program initiatives they find important and interesting. Assist the Director and Curators in providing support for faculty and class use of the Museum’s collection and exhibitions. Although the PCMA does not have a formal program in museum education, the Museum encourages visits from local area schools. The Museum Coordinator schedules and facilitates class visits and provides class tours as requested. Arranges and supervises receptions including hiring caterers, and musicians or D.J.’s, and securing College approved servers for alcohol service; purchases the alcohol and reception items for non-catered events; arranges the tables for smaller non-catered events. Bachelor degree required. Museum experience desirable. A strong commitment to collaboration is a must as the museum coordinator will be an integral member of a dynamic team. Work requirements include strong computer, writing and proofreading skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are expected.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development, and working with other Advancement colleagues and departments throughout the College, Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for managing a portfolio comprising a minimum of 150 prospects and donors within specific geographic regions, coordinating and implementing all activities relating to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of these individuals. Considerable travel, both out of state and within California, will be required, as will some evening and weekend work. The Major Gifts Officer will hold a bachelor’s degree, have strong interpersonal and writing skills, and be able to communicate effectively the value of a liberal arts education. A minimum of three years of major gifts fundraising experience preferred. Responsible for general administrative duties and office management under the supervision of the Department Chair. The Administrative Assistant for the Art Museum is responsible for the business office and administrative support for the Museum. The successful candidate will assist in preparation of budget; monitors accounts; records purchases and reconciles purchase card statements; pays bills; prepares reports; oversees payroll for student guards, museum assistants, and interns. Production Manager, Department of Theatre and Dance

Primary responsibility for the management of four main stage theatrical productions and a fully produced dance concert each academic year. Senior Laboratory Associate, Pomona College

The Biology Department at Pomona College seeks a highly motivated individual with broad training in biology, and expertise in ecology and the plant sciences. The two primary responsibilities will be 1.) To prepare for laboratories and field work in an introductory course with an emphasis on ecology and evolution, place orders and acquire materials for this course, and assist in teaching the laboratory, and 2.) To maintain the departmental plant-growing facilities, including greenhouses and growth chambers, and be responsible for growing plants for class use and for research. The senior lab associate may also assist in the preparation of laboratories for some appropriate upper-division biology courses, as time permits. He/she will supervise student assistants in greenhouse work and in preparation and cleanup for the introductory course labs. Language Technology Intern at The Foreign Language Resource Center (FLRC)

The Foreign Language Resource Center (FLRC) is part of the Oldenborg Center for Modern Languages and International Relations at Pomona College. It explores advances in language technology and promotes creative, sustainable language production by faculty and their students, both inside and outside the classroom. The FLRC offers specialized equipment on-site and also functions as a meeting and coordination space to support those engaged in studies of target languages and cultures. The Language Technology intern reports directly to the FLRC head. The intern provides administrative and technical support to the FLRC and serves as a first point of contact. Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills as this position interacts with faculty, staff, and students with various levels of experience in target languages and technology. The intern assists the FLRC head in day-to-day administration of the center by supervising a staff of student workers, organizing and completing assigned projects independently, and by maintaining FLRC security. Flexibility, a willingness to collaborate with others, and professional discretion are expected. The FLRC intern is part of a larger team of language professionals at Pomona College and complements services offered by the Oldenborg Center and modern language faculty. Technician, Geology Department

The Geology Department Technician supports the Department’s basic educational and research missions. Ideal applicants should have: a Master’s degree in geology or earth science (or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience); strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; and, a willingness to cheerfully and independently tackle new challenges as they arise. The ability to work congenially with co-workers in an academic setting is essential. Aptitude for mechanical and computing tasks is desirable, and attention to the safe use and care of equipment and facilities is vital. Temporary, part-time, 10- to 12-month position. Hours may be between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, and in eight-hour shifts between 9:00 and 2:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Building Managers will average 20 hours per week during the academic year. Managers are responsible for all operational aspects of the Campus Center during night and weekend hours in the absence of professional staff. Smith Campus Center houses two restaurants, the Coop Store, the Volunteer Center, Career Development Offices, Asian American Resource Center, Teaching and Learning Center, Offices of the Associated Students of Pomona College, a 200 seat theatre, a billiards and video game room, Edmunds Ballroom and numerous other meeting rooms and reservable spaces. Building Managers will report to the Assistant Director of the Campus Center. Successful applicants will be honest and dependable with a strong work ethic. Proven customer service skills, the ability to work within a diverse community, familiarity with Higher Education and a desire to work closely with students are required. On-Call Class B Driver - Smith Campus Center

Will drive College-owned 25-passenger shuttle on an as-needed basis. Reports to the Assistant Director of the Smith Campus Center & Student Programs. Duties include: driving 25-passenger shuttle bus; servicing shuttle bus occasionally (gasoline, wash, etc.); performing related duties as assigned. Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid Class B Driver License with a Passenger Endorsement and have a driving record acceptable to the college’s automobile liability insurance carrier. Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently enough to:  Converse with the general public; understand highway  traffic signs and signals in the English Language; respond to official inquires and make entries on reports and records.   Experience driving 25-passenger vehicle and working with college students preferred.

On call for catering events during day, evening and weekend hours.  Responsibilities:  Set up and break down catered events. Should have knowledge of correct waitering service, buffet service, break service, and concessions.  Responsible for collecting material for catered events and replacing correctly.  Also, keep all catering equipment in clean and working condition.  Abilities: Must be able to communicate in English with the catering customer, and read English to follow catering contracts.  Must have strong customer service skills and ability to stand for long periods of time.  Ability to lift 50 pounds (functional capacity test required). On-Call Models for Art Classes

Salary:  $20.00 per hour
Occasional position with no guaranteed hours. The Art & Art History Department at Pomona College seeks persons interested in modeling for studio art classes.  Hours are variable and available from September through mid-May. The department is looking for a variety of body types for the purpose of modeling in the nude for studio art classes.  Prior experience is preferable but not necessary. The job requires the ability to maintain a professional attitude in the classroom, to take directions from the professor, to hold a pose for up to 20 minutes at a time, and to remain quiet while modeling. 

On-Call Building Attendant

Clean offices, conference rooms, classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, auditoriums, hallways, dorm rooms, kitchen areas (large and small), dining hall, college-owned homes, basketball courts, locker rooms, training rooms, and restrooms; change overhead burned-out light bulbs, be able to climb a ladder and perform cleaning tasks up to elevation of 10 feet from the floor, and be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Some knowledge of use of cleaning appliances or willingness to learn to operate custodial equipment is a must. Working hours will vary with shifts as early as 5:00 a.m., and as late as 4:00 p.m. or weekends. No guarantee of duration of work assignments. On-Call Utility Worker (Dining Services) (repeat posting)

Temporary, full- or part-time position with no guaranteed hours.  Duties include, but are not limited to: Sweeping and mopping floors, washing work tables, refrigerators, and salad bars, removing trash and garbage to designated areas.  Scrapes food from dishes, cleans pots and pans.  Transfers equipment and supplies between work areas and storage, either by hand or hand truck. Required to clean equipment by using specific chemicals and ability to use and clean various machines, such as the dish machine, floor machine, etc. Also, assisting with setting up and/or breaking down meal set ups and catering events. Also, assists with restocking beverages in the beverage machines.  Abilities: Must be able to lift 50 pounds (functional capacity test required).  Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
