The Wig Awards

The winners of the Wig Distinguished Teaching awards for 2001 are professors Pierre Englebert, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Richard Hazlett, Nicole Weekes, Jonathan Wright, and Samuel Yamashita.

The awards recognize quality of teaching, concern for students, outstanding research and service to the College and community. Winners are chosen by the junior and senior class and are then confirmed by a board of faculty and students.

Englebert, associate professor of politics, joined the faculty in 1998. He is the politics coordinator for the Politics, Philosophy and Economics program. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.

Fitzpatrick, associate professor of English and media studies, has been a member of the faculty since 1998. She holds a doctorate from New York University.

Hazlett, associate professor of geology, joined the faculty in 1987. He received his doctorate from the University of Southern California.

Weekes, assistant professor of psychology, came to Pomona in 1998. She earned a doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Wright, associate professor of biology, joined the faculty in 1998. He holds a doctorate from Oxford University in England.

Yamashita, associate professor of history, has been at Pomona since 1983. This is his fourth Wig award. He has a doctorate from the University of Michigan.
