The
Wigs for 2002
The
recipients of the 2002 Wig Distinguished Professorship Awards, announced
during commencement ceremonies, are Professors Daniel Birkholz, William
Banks, Cecilia Conrad, Jerry Irish, David Menefee-Libey and Katherine
Hagedorn. The Award recognizes exceptional teaching, concern for students,
outstanding research and service to the College and community. Recipients
of the Wig Awards, which were established by Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Wig in
1955, are elected by the junior and senior classes.
Assistant Professor of English Daniel Birkholz, an expert in medieval
literature, joined the faculty in 1999. Professor of Psychology William
Banks has been a member of the faculty since 1969 and is currently chair
of the Psychology Department. Cecilia Conrad, an associate professor of
economics, has been at Pomona since 1995. Jerry Irish, a professor of
religious studies is a former academic dean and a member of the faculty
since 1986. Associate Professor of Politics David Menefee-Libey joined
the faculty in 1989. Associate Professor of Music Katherine Hagedorn,
at Pomona since 1993, was named the 2000 California Professor of the Year.
