Order
from the secret
menu at In-N-Out.
In-N-Out is Southern California’s favorite fast-food joint, a family-run
chain known for fresh ingredients and mouth-watering double-double
burgers. Fans don In-N-Out T-shirts, plaster bumper stickers on their
cars and are willing to wait in lunchtime lines for their fix.
The sign of a true In-N-Out addict is knowledge of the chain’s “secret
menu” of items you can order even though they’re not on the signboard.
Some fans now tout the secrets on the Web, but even students who grew up
eating In-N-Out probably haven’t heard of everything on this list:
Animal-style: Burger with lettuce, tomato, extra spread, pickles and
grilled onions. Mustard is grilled into the patty. There’s also an
animal-style version of fries.
Protein-style: A burger without the bun, wrapped in lettuce instead.
Wish burger: A burger minus the meat.
4-by-4: A burger with four patties and four slices of cheese. Other
variations, such as a 3-by-3, also are possible.
Neopolitan: A shake with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.
Grilled cheese: Two slices of cheese on a bun, along with the rest of
the fixings.
Flying Dutchman: Two meat patties, two slices of cheese and nothing
else.
Double meat: A double-double burger without the cheese.
