Women’s Basketball (4-21 overall, 3-11 SCIAC)
The women’s team finished the season on a high note, defeating Caltech 83-58 at home. Sophomore Deirdre Chew was named to the All-SCIAC Second Team. Chew led the Sagehens in scoring (14.6 points per game) and rebounding (4.5). First-year Mary Padden finished second on the team in scoring at 11.9 points per game.
Men’s Basketball (15-13 overall, 8-6 SCIAC, SCIAC tournament champions)
Despite finishing in third place during the regular season, the Sagehens won the inaugural SCIAC Championship Tournament, upsetting No. 2 seed Cal Lutheran and defeating cross-campus rivals Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the third time in a season. With the tournament win, Pomona-Pitzer advanced to the NCAA tournament where the team fell to SCIAC rival Occidental 52-51 in the first round. Senior Jabarri Reynolds and sophomore Justin Sexton were both named to the All-SCIAC First Team. Reynolds was also named the Ted Ducey Award recipient.
Women’s Swimming & Diving (6-1 SCIAC)
Pomona-Pitzer finished the year in a tie for second place in SCIAC, improving from fourth last year. At the conference championship meet, the Sagehens finished third and had three individual championships (first-year Naomi Laporte—100 and 200 butterfly, senior Laura Condon—200 backstroke). Laporte, Condon and the 400 medley relay team (Condon, Laporte, junior Kathleen Hall and sophomore Kristen Boysen) achieved NCAA consideration qualifying times, Laporte was selected to attend the meet, finishing 14th in the 200 butterfly.
Men’s Swimming & Diving (5-2 SCIAC)
The team placed third in SCIAC, improving from fourth last year. At the conference championship meet, the Sagehens also finished third. Highlights of the meet included an individual championship by freshman Erik Petersen in the 200 butterfly and a strong performance by the divers (sophomore Dante Benson, junior Doug Campbell, junior Todd Logan, sophomore Lukas Martincik and junior Andrew Sylvester), whose combined point tally from both boards was higher than any other team.
