Fall 2006/ Team by Team
Men’s Cross Country (5-2 overall, 5-2 SCIAC)
The Sagehens finished second in conference. Senior Will Leer was named
SCIAC Runner of the Year, the fourth consecutive season in which a
Pomona-Pitzer runner has garnered such an award. Leer placed second at
NCAA Division III nationals, the second best finish ever for a Sagehen
runner.
Women’s Cross Country (5-2 overall, 5-2 SCIAC)
Finishing third in SCIAC, the squad had two first team All-SCIAC runners
in first-year Alicia Freese (2nd) and senior Kirsten Rasmussen (6th),
plus one second team All-SCIAC runner
in senior Karen Ring (13th). The harriers finished 12th at the NCAA West
Region Meet, with Rasmussen earning All-Region honors in 34th place.
Football (3-6 overall, 2-4 SCIAC)
The season ended on a high note with a 31-14 victory over
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The under-manned Sagehens (37 players) lost four
games this season by less than a touchdown.
Senior Matt Barbour was named SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year, and
junior Matt Martini led the conference in receiving. Seniors Caleb Reiff
and Eric Bartesch were named to the all-conference second team.
Men’s Soccer (12-6-1 overall, 10-3-1 SCIAC)
With a second place conference finish, senior Andrew Nourafshan and
firstyear Andrew Stamm were named to the all-conference first team, and
sophomore Kyle Hill and junior Andrew Jacobson were named to the second
team.
Women’s Soccer (10-6-2 overall, 8-3-2 SCIAC)
Sagehens finished second in the SCIAC regular season, with five honored
as All-SCIAC selections. Sophomores Lily Hitchner and Julia Carr and
first-year Elli Seo took home first team honors. Junior Jenny Medvene-Collins
and first-year Claire McGroder took home second team honors. On the
regional level, Carr was named to the All-West Region first team, while
Hitchner and Seo received second team honors.
Volleyball (15-10 overall, 8-6 SCIAC)
Senior setter Laura Laakso and first-year outside Sarah Amos were named
to the Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament Team. Laakso was named to
the SCIAC first team for her second consecutive year, first team
All-West Region and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, as well as being
named Team MVP. Sophomore Megan Prior was named to the SCIAC second team
for her second consecutive year. Joining her was first-year Sarah Amos.
Men’s Water Polo (18-19 overall, 8-2 SCIAC)
Senior Tim Brown was named first team All-WWPA, the only Division III
athlete to make the team. Brown was also named first team All-SCIAC
along with junior David Mock. Junior Field
Garthwaite was named second team All-SCIAC.
Spring 2006 Correction:
Christine Calderon ’09 made All-SCIAC in softball.
