Awards for Distinguished Alumni
The 2001 Alumni Distinguished Service Award was presented to Ed Malan '48 and John Pendleton '51 in recognition of their selfless commitment and ongoing volunteer service to the College. Malan has devoted much of his adult life to fulfilling and promoting the College's mission. A decorated World War II veteran, he has dedicated his life to the College as a student athlete, a faculty member (1950-89), and a dedicated alumni volunteer. Pendleton has served as the Class Reunion Chair for every reunion the Class of 1951 has had. He also served on the Alumni Council and has been a member of the Torchbearers Board and a regular caller at Pomonathons. He continues to serve as an active member of the National Campaign Committee. The Inspirational Young Alumni Award for 2001 was presented to Casey Trupin '95 for his work on behalf of at-risk and homeless youth. Trupin co-founded Street Youth Legal Advocates of Washington (SYLAW), a nonprofit organization providing legal services and counseling to at-risk and homeless youth. Now president of SYLAW and a NAPIL Equal Justice Fellow, Casey practices law on behalf of at-risk and homeless youth in the Seattle area.
