Roam through Griffith Park.
This is the largest urban wilderness area in the U.S., stretching over
more than 4,000 acres in the heart of Los Angeles. Nearly five times the
size of New York’s Central Park, Griffith offers plentiful nature trails
through chaparral-covered hills and a 360-degree view over the Los
Angeles basin. You can see the famous Hollywood sign from some vantage
points. The park also houses the Los Angeles Zoo, Museum of the American
West, the Greek Theatre and the famous Griffith Observatory.
Unfortunately, the observatory is closed until 2006 for major
renovations. But you may wind up seeing stars of another sort at this
park. Over the years, Griffith has been a favorite spot for filming
movies, ranging from Rebel Without a Cause to The Terminator.
