Take a Dip at Deep Creek Hot Springs.
A favorite destination of the campus outdoors group On the Loose, the
Deep Creek Hot Springs is a mineral water oasis in the San Bernardino
National Forest. But be warned, this spot is not for the shy. After a
hike of two to six miles (depending
on the route), visitors often ditch all of their clothes before hopping
into the water.
The closest hot springs to campus, Deep Creek Hot Springs offers several
hot pools and an adjacent mountain river in which to cool off. Aside
from bathing, this location offers both fishing and rock climbing.
There are two quite different routes to the springs, located near the
city of Hesperia. Parking at the end of Deep Creek Road, take a gentle
seven-mile trek, or else, choose a steep two-mile hike starting from
Bowen Ranch. Parking at Bowen Ranch is $4 per person. Camping is not
allowed in the canyon, a fact that quite a few students seem not to have
noticed, however.
