Campus Flora and Fauna
The Pomona College campus spans 140 acres, 100 acres in the campus
proper. Its natural beauty includes:
• More than 3,700 trees
• 856 oaks, of which the most common is the coast live oak
• Native coast live oaks in the Wash area more than 200 years
old
• An abundance of mature trees planted in the early 1990s, including
coast redwoods around Marston Quad and Pearsons Hall and with the coast
live oaks along Stover Walk
• Three kinds of ivy—Hedera helix ivy, Algerian ivy and Boston ivy
• Abundant wildlife: raccoons, squirrels, ground squirrels,
great-horned owls, red-tailed hawks, finches and woodpeckers
• A few bobble-head owls near President David Oxtoby’s office to keep
away the woodpeckers, who had a tendency to peck against his window |
