Armintrout Joins Board
Elizabeth Armintrout '86 is Pomona's
newest trustee
Elizabeth “Libby” Gates Armintrout, a 1986 Pomona alumna who
majored in economics, is the newest member of the Pomona College Board
of Trustees. The Seattle native also is president of the board of The
Lakeside School, where she attended high school. Armintrout comes from a
family of civic-minded leaders. In 1991, the Gates family was named the
Philanthropic Family of the Year by Washington Gives and, in 1995, was
the recipient of the First Citizen Award from the Seattle-King County
Association of Realtors. Armintrout also is an honorary board member of
the Program for Early Parenthood Support and serves on the community
grants committee of The Seattle Foundation, as well as being a founding
member of the Washington Women’s Foundation.
Other service organizations include Make-A-Wish Foundation of Washington
State, United Way of King County and the 1990 Goodwill Games. In a 2004
foreword for Star Palate, a celebrity cookbook to benefit breast and
ovarian cancer research, she wrote, “Whether we’re opening our homes to
friends for entertainment or caring for someone who is unwell, we extend
ourselves to nourish others.”
She and her husband, Douglas, live in Seattle with their three children.
