The Claremont Colleges Intercollegiate Linguistics program emphasizes the use of language in human interaction and the diversity of languages at the various analytical levels of phonology (speech sounds), syntax (sentence structure), and semantics (meaning). Course offerings in Linguistics originate in the departments of the languages, philosophy, psychology, and anthropology, offering a truly interdisciplinary approach. Those departments, as well as Women's Studies, recognize linguistics courses for major credit. Students majoring in linguistics have pursued postgraduate study and careers in English as a Second Language, advertising, media studies, law, speech therapy, and, of course, linguistics itself.
