Guitarist Jack Sanders’ performances have included the Sitka Summer Music Festival, Kapalua Music Festival of Hawaii, Arrowhead Bach Festival, and solo appearances with numerous orchestras, including the California Philharmonic, Illinois Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Santa Fe, Modesto Symphony, Orange County Chamber Orchestra and South Coast Symphony. He has performed with the St. Petersburg, Colorado, and Angeles string quartets, I Cantori, and XTET. The Luthier, a short documentary on Sanders' instrument building filmed by Benjamin Hoste, may be viewed on YouTube.

With violinist Clayton Haslop, Sanders toured the U.S. for twenty years and appeared at Guitar Foundation of America Festivals, Merkin Hall, the Oregon Bach Festival, and in 1988, concertized in China. The Duo has recorded for Centaur and Townhall Records and a solo recording by Sanders featuring the Preludes of Ponce, Villa-Lobos and Carlevaro was released by Townhall Records. Performing with oboist Allan Vogel and flutist Janice Tipton, the ensemble appeared at the International Music Festival of Costa Rica and the Sedona Chamber Music Festival.

Equally at home performing music of all periods, Sanders has premiered works by Micio Mamiya, Anthony Plog, Karl Kohn, Joseph Brennan, Frank Campo, and concertos by Louis Moyse and Gabriel Bolaños. In 1999 he presented the U.S. premiere of Raymond Luedeke’s Elemental Dances with the Colorado String Quartet.

Upcoming concerts for 2014-15 Louisiana and Georgia for the Piatigorsky Foundation, and solo recitals which will feature the first performances of Kohn’s Soliloquy V. In 2013, the American Guitar Society honored Mr. Sanders and Scott Tennant at its 90th Anniversary Celebration with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

A three-time full scholarship student of Oscar Ghiglia at the Banff Centre, Sanders received his BFA and MFA degrees from California Institute of the Arts, studying with Stuart Fox. At Pomona College since 1980, his students have been prizewinners in the Parkening Young Guitarist, Tokyo International, Guitar Foundation of America, ASTA, Redlands Bowl, YoungArts, and Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight competitions.

An accomplished luthier, Sanders builds guitars and vihuelas, and has taught instrument-building courses at California Institute of the Arts and Pomona College. Mr. Sanders has made copies of historic guitars for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Yale, UCLA, UC Dominguez Hills, CSU Northridge, and UC Santa Barbara. Recently, Sanders built two baroque guitars for the Waller/Maxwell duo, on the faculty of Northwestern University and a baroque guitar for Jeffrey McFadden, faculty of University of Toronto. His Essays on "Playing the Guitar" are featured in Soundboard, the quarterly journal of the Guitar Foundation of America.
