PPA Internships - 2012


Rachael Bollens, Biology/PPA, interned with Saath, a South Asian Public Health Organization. Rachel did research, worked on policy briefs and public relation materials relating to tobacco use in South Asian communities.

Cati Crawford, Neuroscience/PPA, interned with the Childhood Obesity Research Center at the University of Southern California. She organized project outreach.

Sophia Geffens, Special Major in Health Policy/PPA, will intern with East Valley Community Health Center in the HIV Outreach Department. After certification, worked as an HIV testing counselor and taught STD classes at locations throughout the Inland Valley.

Courtney Hamilton, Politics/PPA, interned with the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership writing briefs, letters, and conducting policy research on a variety of issues relevant to the membership of the organization.

Jasmine Johnson (Scripps College), Politics/PPA, interned with the Los Angeles School District Office of Data and Accountability. She compiled data, wrote materials and worked with staff on the School Accountability Report Card.

Alice Mirlesse (Claremont McKenna College), Anthropology/PPA, interned with Neighborhood Legal Services at the Pomona SelfHelp Center, located near the Pomona Courthouse. She worked with staff attorneys and assisted litigants in filing our court papers in Family Law, Small Claims, and Housing Law.

Thomas Mooney-Meyers, Politics/PPA, interned with the City of Claremont in the Economic Development Department. Thomas researched municipal policy, wrote memos for the mayor and vaious council members and assisted in event planning.

Julia Neaves, Economics/PPA, interned with Claremont Unified School District in the Business Services Department. Julia rotated between the main business services office and the human resource office. She summarized and evaluated financial policies and assisted the district in transitioning to a new health insurance provider.

Courtney Powers, Science, Technology, and Society/PPA, interned for the Children’s Defense Fund in Los Angeles. She worked as a health policy intern on a $1 million grant from Medical to increase enrollment of uninsured school age children.

Stephen Sanders, Environmental Analysis Policy/PPA, completed his internship in Washington, D.C. with the Coalition for Clean Air.

Howie Vogt, Politics/PPA, interned with the Bureau of Land Management in Moreno Valley. Most of Howie's responsibilities lay in the communications and outreach division.
