A popular option for students who major in the natural sciences and social sciences is the Program in Public Policy Analysis, an interdisciplinary approach to public affairs. The public policy curriculum allows students to apply their energies theoretically to current issues through coursework, and practically through research and experience. Recent student interns have tracked wilderness usage for the U.S. Forest Service and studied implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at the Center for Law in the Public Interest. Other students have learned how community agencies and non-governmental organizations (e.g., LEARN, Bread for the World, and other public interest groups) are on the cutting edge of the decision-making process that influences policy.
