The Intercollegiate Department of Chicano Studies, the academic program of the Chicano Studies Center, offers courses that document, study, and interpret the Chicano/a experience. The 10-member department offers interdisciplinary courses and works in conjunction with the Chicano Studies Center to prepare students for life and work in multicultural settings. Among the disciplines currently represented in this program are art, history, literature, politics, psychology, sociology, and Women's Studies.
To meet the needs of a growing Latino population in California, and in this area of Los Angeles county in particular, the Chicano Studies' calendar includes a regular colloquium series where internationally-recognized experts in the fields of law, medicine, education, labor, public policy, and business come to campus to meet with students and faculty.
Full-time staff members at the Center, also expert in Chicano/a Studies, administer a wide range of academic, social, political, and cultural activities designed to encourage and enhance the study of the Latino experience in the United States. All intercollegiate activities are open to the entire campus community and students from other fields and disciplines are welcome to participate in the program.
