The striking new Studio Art Hall’s interior will have as much attention to detail as the exterior, with handmade furniture painstakingly sculpted by Professor Michael O’Malley and eight of his students.
The Hammer’s biennial exhibition Made in L.A. 2014 features works by 35 Los Angeles artists with an emphasis on emerging and under recognized artists. It debuts recent work and new painting, installation, video, sculpture, photography, and performances created specifically for the exhibition. Made in L.A. 2014 will be installed in every gallery at the Hammer Museum.
Pomona College’s Rembrandt Hall—the first building devoted to the visual arts in the Pomona Valley—is turning 100 years old. The Myron Hunt-designed building has incubated noteworthy artistic talent that has had global impact, including such alumni as Helen Pashgian '56, James Turrell '65, Chris Burden '69 and Peter Shelton '73.
The Studio Art Hall, located north of Seaver Theatre near the Wash, is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2014 fall semester, providing 36,000 square feet of teaching and learning space—doubling the space available in the College’s 100-year-old Rembrandt Hall.

Professor of Art Mark Allen and Machine Project, his experimental art collective, were commissioned by the J. Paul Getty Museum to produce public programming for Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A., a citywide initiative examining Los Angeles’ architectural heritage.
A museum residency project that Assistant Professor of Art Lisa Anne Auerbach has been working on since last spring is currently on display at the UCLA Hammer Museum—but not on the walls. Her project, United We Stand, considers the role of guards in museums and the physically taxing nature of the job.
