Anthropology

Pomona College, a liberal arts college in Southern California with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a one-year, full-time (5 courses) visiting position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology.  Applicants must have an active research and publishing program, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and PhD in hand at time of appointment. Chemistry

Computer Science

Pomona College invites applications for a one-year full-time visiting faculty position in Computer Science, to begin in July 2012. Candidates should be excellent teachers, have a Ph.D. in computer science (ABD considered), and be able to teach an ethnically diverse student body. Successful candidates will have the ability to teach both upper- and lower-division undergraduate courses. The teaching load for a full-time visiting faculty member is the equivalent of five semester-long courses a year.

Pomona is a highly selective liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 1525 undergraduates, and a student/faculty ratio of eight to one. Mathematics

Pomona College seeks applicants for a non-tenure track, three-year position in pure or applied mathematics. The appointment will be as a visiting assistant professor of mathematics to begin in July, 2012.  Duties will include teaching four semester courses per year and possible direction of student senior projects.  The ideal candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and research, and will be excited about mentoring students and directing student research.  The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to and success in higher education for underrepresented students.

Music

Pomona College is seeking an assistant professor to fill a one-year replacement position in Ethnomusicology in the Music Department from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013.  Candidates should hold the Ph.D. and show evidence of ethnomusicological research as indicated by scholarly presentations or publications.  Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years' teaching experience.  The candidate should be committed to working in an undergraduate liberal arts environment.  Responsibilities include teaching five courses in non-Western music to undergraduates and supervising two non-Western ensembles taught by specialists.  The teaching load includes an introductory course in World Music, a theory and methods course in Ethnomusicology, and three additional courses based on the candidate’s expertise and the department’s needs.  Area of specialization is open.  If appropriate, leading a non-Western ensemble may be considered part of the teaching load. Sociology

The Sociology Department at Pomona College in Claremont, CA invites applications for a one-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professorship, beginning Fall 2012. The position has a teaching load of five courses for the year: three core courses and two electives.  Preference will be given to candidates who can teach Introduction to Sociology, Qualitative Research Methods, and Contemporary Theory. PhD in hand preferred, ABD will be considered. Applicants should have teaching experience.
