Provides administrative support for the Dean of the College and her office. Manages the Dean’s calendar, the Dean’s Office files and budgets, and the faculty listservs. Assists in processing faculty contracts, professional activities reports (PARs) [pdf] , and department/program annual reports.  Also staffs faculty meetings and edits the Department Chairs and Program Coordinators Handbook.

Provides administrative support for the Associate Deans of the College and for the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and manages their calendars.  Also staffs the Honorary Degrees Committee of the Board of Trustees.  Assists with faculty recruiting, office space, Faculty Personnel Committee, Self Studies, Assessment, Emeriti Committee, Consortium for Faculty Diversity, AALAC (Mellon 23), Mellon Chau, Wig Distinguished Professorship awards and Wig grants.  Responsible for Document Management and Retention for the Dean’s office, updating the Dean's Office webpages, conducting research with peer institutions for the VP & Dean of the College, organizing the New Faculty Orientation, and assisting with organization of other events.

Oversees internal and external faculty research and travel grants including budget management. Acts as liaison with the Business Office and Advancement in tracking and reporting of grant and research expenditures. Facilitates the Summer Undergraduate Research Program and supports the academic leave program.

Oversees the Wig Distinguished Professorship awards and funds for curriculum development, teaching innovation, travel to teaching conferences, faculty auditing, and other teaching-related activities. Serves on the Faculty Personnel Committee in a non-voting capacity and assists the Dean in managing faculty review procedures.  Also oversees the recruitment of full-time visiting faculty, serves on the Sustainability Committee and supports the Cabinet, Cabinet Agenda Committee, Emeriti Committee, and Wig Fund for Teaching Committee.  Other responsibilities include overseeing the Dean’s Office staff, editing the Faculty Handbook [pdf] , approving grade changes, and serving as a liaison for international initiatives.

Serves on the Curriculum Committee and the Teaching & Learning Committee.  Works with faculty across The College on curricular initiatives, including the Elemental Arts Initiative and the Museum Curriculum Coordination Committee.   Oversees department and program reviews (self studies), coordinates the assessment of student learning with the Teaching & Learning Committee and assists the Dean in her position as accreditation liaison officer.

The Dean of the College is responsible for the quality of the academic program and for its continuing improvement. The Dean oversees faculty personnel actions including recruitment and reviews for reappointment and promotion. This office is also in charge of supporting the faculty and the departments/programs with needed personnel, office space, and material resources. The Dean works closely with the President and the Vice President for Advancement in designing new policies and programs and in developing proposals to prospective donors.

Responsible for various institutional surveys, questionnaires, and requests for information about faculty and the academic program of the College. Monitors and analyzes the faculty salary budget, prepares faculty contracts, and provides appropriate offices with new hire information. Edits the faculty section of the Pomona College Catalog. Assists the Dean in faculty personnel matters. Also staffs the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Oversees the recruitment and mentoring of tenure-track faculty, administers the New Faculty Orientation and the Mellon Chau Postdoctoral Fellows program, works with the President's Advisory Committee on Diversity, and serves as the Diversity Officer and as one of the College's Grievance Officers.

Responsible for assisting faculty with research and scholarly development.  Oversees the funding of internal programs and external government and non-government grant applications. Acts as the faculty liaison for building projects in the sciences. Handles requests for academic leaves and for student/faculty collaborative research programs. Oversees regulatory issues associated with human subjects, chemical hygiene and biosafety, and radiation safety. Also a member of the Pomona College Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Research Committee, the Institutional Review Board, the Radiation Safety Committee, the Animal Welfare and Use Committee and attends the Board of Trustees’ Facilities and Environment Committee meetings.

Academic Dean
