What to Know
Our webpage on Visiting Pomona College provides directions to campus, as well as helpful information on local accommodations, and the surrounding area. After you arrive, consult our Campus Map [pdf] to locate your exact destination. More details on orientation can be found on our New Student Orientation webpage.
If you have any inquiries, or need any assistance during move-in day, our Pomona College Welcome Team is more than happy to answer your question/s or point you towards the right direction. The crew will be wearing bright shirts with the phrase "Ask Me!" on the back.
When arriving on campus on August 25, 2013 by car, new students must first park at the South Campus Parking Structure, located on 295 E. First Street, Claremont, CA 91711. Please enter the structure on Amherst Ave. via First St.
After parking, Campus Life staff members will provide you with additional move-in information and directions on the north-west exit on the second floor of the parking structure. Leave your car at the parking structure, and walk towards the Office of Campus Life in Sumner Hall (adjacent to the Admissions Office) to continue checking in.
If you are arriving by public transportation or by shuttle, your first stop should be the Office of Campus Life in Sumner Hall.
Check-in tables are located just outside of The Office of Campus Life at Sumner Hall, you will receive your room key, mailbox key and all check in materials. These materials will include:
- information regarding residence hall policies
- directions for setting up your voice mail
- emergency information
- campus resources
- information from the Housekeeping Department
You will have your ID picture taken in the Office of Campus Life. You will receive a temporary ID card; a permanent ID card will be issued later that day.
Your new Pomona ID card is good for four years, and will give you access to the residence halls, the mail room, the computer center and various other buildings on campus. It will be your meal card, library card, and if you add Claremont Cash, it can be used for laundry or purchases at the Coop Store, Huntley Bookstore, or participating businesses in the area that accept Claremont Cash. Please note: ID cards and keys will only be given out to the student, not a relative. Also, please be aware that we cannot accommodate requests for access to student rooms prior to the scheduled check in time.
