Marketing to Students

We can help you create a customized plan for your recruiting at Pomona College.  We pride ourselves on being able to help employers increase their visibility on-campus and have several ways to assist you, which include:

Targeted Listservs – We have 12 listservs organized by industry (i.e. consulting/business, law, non-profit, health, etc.) that are very popular with our students.  We send out opportunities, events, and resources that are relevant to the industry focus of the listserv.

Student Groups & Faculty – We can help share your opportunity with relevant student groups and academic departments.  Contact our Recruiting Coordinator by email or phone at 909.607.7905.

On-Campus Resources – There are a variety of other ways to reach out to students including a daily message board (CHIRPS), events on-campus, other newsletters, etc.  Contact our Recruiting Coordinator by email or phone at 909.607.7905 to discuss what the best ways for you to advertise are.

Mock Interviews – Students enjoy practicing their interviews with employers and hearing their feedback.  This is a great way to help prepare students for interviews with your organization or to help get the word out about your company.

Employers that are most successful in their recruiting exhibit these traits:

Targeted advertising and job descriptions to Pomona College students – Pomona students are different from those at larger state schools and therefore it makes sense to use different outreach tools.  They like personalized recruiting and not feeling “part of the herd.”  Starting your job description with buzzwords that appeal to them (i.e. critical thinking, research, analyze, travel) or showing them how their major could fit with this position (i.e. Are you a political science major?  Come use your research and analytical skills at a top company.  Music Major?  We value your creativity and ability to think outside the box.).

Long-term commitment to the school – Organizations that come year after year, allowing students to get to know them and tell their friends find that it’s easier to get the word out.  At a small school, getting your organization known through word-or-mouth is optimal.

Utilize alumni – Pomona student love to hear from Pomona or other Claremont College alumni and give a lot of credence to their experience with your organization.  One employer had an alumnus write a short paragraph about his personal experience at his employer, and then included information about their upcoming information session which we sent out through one of the listservs.  In return they had one of their highest attendances ever.

Host interns – Students spread the word about their experience, so the more people you have on-campus that have an experience with your organization the better.  Learn more about our Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) by clicking here.
