ESL Community Event 2012 | Diana OrtizFebruary 19, 2013
Diana Ortiz is a junior at Pomona College pursuing a History major with an emphasis in Latin America and a minor in Chicano/a Latino/a Studies.
The ESL Tutoring Program celebrated the end of Fall Semester 2012 with a community event with both workers and students. We ate pupusas, rice, beans, and other snacks while we worked on decorating the ESL Tree Art Project. Everyone decorated their orange or apple profile that indicated favorite animal, food, music, and hobby. In addition, everyone filled out a reflection sheet of the program and enjoyed the salsa music on the background while we conversed both in English and Spanish. It was wonderful to see all participants that make the ESL Program united in one space. We had an abundance of food and invited friends and any worker around the building to offer them food. Some of those workers who joined us even signed up for the ESL program. To finish the event we thanked our very own ESL student coordinators Alice Chan and Mauricio Navarro who are now studying abroad in Spring Semester of 2013. We are looking at continuing the friendships we established first semester with another campaign to recruit workers, train student volunteers, and hopefully have another community event full of fun and games.
