Packaging and Awards

How is my financial eligibility determined?

The family contribution depends only on the family's financial circumstances. Financial aid eligibility is the difference between the total cost of attending Pomona College and the family contribution. This total cost includes tuition and fees, room and board, an allowance for books, supplies, and other incidental expenses. The College does not provide for travel expenses for international students who must travel to and from the United States.

How is my financial aid awarded?

Financial aid awards for international students attending Pomona College have been gift aid (scholarships and grants) and work. The College's Office of Financial Aid will prepare a financial aid package for each admitted student who demonstrates financial aid eligibility.
An international student with an eligibility of $18,950 will have a package that looks like this:

  • Pomona Grant: $16,550
  • Student Employment $2,400
  • Total Aid $18,950

How do I receive my financial aid?

All students have accounts set up at the College's Business Office. Each semester one-half of your financial aid award is credited to your account. Grants and scholarships are automatically credited each semester; loans are credited as an expected amount until such time as the College receives a signed promissory note.

What happens if I receive an award from a source other than Pomona College?

Students must inform the Office of Financial Aid of any outside awards received so that the awards can be included in their financial aid packages. The College recognizes both the honor and the extra effort implicit in these awards; therefore, an adjustment to the student's work is made.
