A paid internship with the Office of Admissions can help you gain work experience and build your resume. We're looking for students who are well organized, responsible, and have strong communication skills.

Positions require commitment for the full school year, the winter break, or the summer. Admissions interns are also expected to work at least one Saturday during the fall semester and participate in tour guide and overnight host training.

Academic Year Positions

Senior Interviewer

Current juniors at Pomona College may apply to interview prospective students, as well as perform other duties according to your interests and the needs of the office. The position is for your full senior academic year and includes an average of 12 hours of work per week:

  • 8 hours of interviewing during the week
  • 3 hours interviewing on at least four Saturdays during the fall semester
  • 1 hour weekly meeting
  • 1 hour per week working the front desk during the lunch hour

Senior interviewers also work special events, including April Admissions Days and DecemberFest. The salary is above the minimum wage. Training begins August 26, with stipend and room and board provided.

Admissions Intern (5 positions)

Admissions interns are engaged students who are knowledgeable about Pomona College, have developed meaningful connections across campus, and are excited to serve as the face of the college. This is a paid position that requires 6-10 hours per week; hours are flexible. This position is not open to first-year students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responding to emails and gaining intimate knowledge of the admissions process and protocol
  • Finding Pomona College students to host prospective applicants and coordinating student participation in overnight hosting
  • Assisting with the diversity fly-out programs
  • Clerical support
  • Working the front desk, answering phones, taking messages, and assisting visitors
  • Leading tours as needed
  • Maintaining and updating the alumni volunteer list
  • Assigning alumni interviews
  • Assisting with Admitted Student Days

Mandatory training will take place in the Fall during the first week back.

Tour Guide Coordinator

The tour guide coordinator provides support for the tour guide program. The position requires 6-10 hours per week; hours are flexible and include occasional Saturday work. Experienced Tour Guides are preferred. Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting and training new and experienced tour guides
  • Coordinating tour schedules and routes for on-campus programs
  • Arranging packets and letters for special tour groups
  • Conducting campus tours
  • Acting as a liaison between student guides and the Admissions Office
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of Admissions Days in April
  • Working the front desk, answering phones, taking messages, and assisting visitors

Winter Break Interns

The Office of Admissions is open from January 2 to January 17, while Pomona College students are on winter break. We hire three to four students to work Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hourly wage is $9.00. On-campus housing is not provided. The following positions are available:

Winter Break Admissions Office Intern (3 positions)

  • Opening and processing of incoming mail
  • Conducting daily scheduled campus tours
  • Providing clerical support (typing, filing, etc.)

Winter Break Admissions Email Intern (1 position)

  • Managing the general Admissions email account
  • Sitting at the Admissions Office reception desk, answering phones, and taking messages

Summer Positions for Current Students

The following positions are currently available for the summer:

Summer Senior Interviewer

Open to current juniors at Pomona College. Primary responsibilities include interviewing prospective students and giving tours. You'll work from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting late May and ending in early August. Job responsibilities include:

  • Answering phones at lunch on a rotating basis
  • Substituting for fall senior interviewers when available
  • Working special events, including April Admissions Days and DecemberFest

The salary is above minimum wage. On-campus housing is not included but may be arranged. Training begins in May after Memorial Day.

Tour Guide/Office Assistant (2 positions)

The Office Assistant provides support for the tour guide program during the summer session, from late May through August. One full-time position is available for up to 40 hours per week and one part-time position is available for 20 hours per week. You'll work during Admissions Office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hourly wage is $9.00. On-campus housing is not included but may be arranged. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting all daily scheduled campus and special tours
  • Arranging packets and letters for special tour groups
  • Providing clerical support (typing, filing, etc.)
  • Working the front desk, answering phones, and taking messages
  • Assisting admissions staff with programs and projects
