AARC Mission Statement

So, transform yourself first...Because you are young and have dreams and want to do something meaningful, that in itself, makes you our future and our hope. Keep expanding your horizon, decolonize your mind, and cross  borders.

OUR MISSION

Welcome to the Pomona College Asian American Resource Center's webpage.  The AARC helps Asian American students fulfill themselves as individuals, leaders, and community members.  Like Pomona College, the AARC seeks to "prepare students for lives of personal fulfillment and social responsibility in a global context."  Beyond welcoming people from diverse backgrounds into the campus community, Pomona encourages each individual to diversify his or her sensibilities.  Toward this end, AARC designs multicultural activities to acquaint the entire community with Asian American issues and perspectives.  At the same time, AARC programs help students of Asian ancestry explore their heritage and consider how best to strengthen and diversify American society.  By fostering awareness of Asian American issues at Pomona College, AARC helps strengthen the Claremont College and the greater community we all share.

AARC's mission is to:

  • Build a stronger sense of Asian Pacific Islander community
  • Raise awareness of issues affecting Asian/Asian American and Pacific Islanders
  • Develop student leadership.
  • Act as a resource for the campus community.
The Asian American Resource Center (AARC, established in 1991, helps Asian Pacific American students develop intellectually, socially, personally, academically and politically.  Central to all programs, projects and events, is the value of developing leadership skills among APA students.  Working in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Department of Asian American Studies, the AARC creates opportunities to raise awareness of issues affecting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.  The AARC works in collaboration with other ethnic groups, academic department and campus offices to sponsor a wide range of educational endeavors.  By fostering awareness of APA issues at Pomona College, the AARC helps strengthen the Claremont Colleges and the greater community.
