Prior
to starting at Pomona in 1987, Andy grew up in Hawaii, Utah, northern California
and southern California. During his time at Pomona, Andy served as a sponsor,
resident advisor, admissions interviewer and tenor in the Glee Club. He majored
in economics and graduated in 1991. Andy feels that his experiences at Pomona
were critical to his development as a person, which he never would have
experienced without Pomona’s generous financial aid programs. As a result, Andy
enjoys volunteering for Pomona in order to repay this debt in some measure. Andy
had the pleasure of serving on the Alumni Council from 1995 – 1998 and on the
Alumni Board from 1999 through 2004, including serving as Alumni Fund Committee
Chair and Alumni Association President. He is very excited to be serving on the
Alumni Board once again.
Professionally, Andy serves as the Director of Housing and Economic Development
for the City of Santa Monica. In that role, he is responsible for the City’s
financing of affordable housing construction, housing assistance programs, real
estate, business development and redevelopment. Since joining the City of Santa
Monica in 1998, Andy has managed a variety of planning and development efforts.
Andy worked in redevelopment, finance and administration for the City of Anaheim
from 1993 to 1998. Andy holds a Master of Public Affairs and Urban and Regional
Planning from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and
International Affairs.
Andy lives in Santa Monica, where he is an avid practitioner of hatha yoga,
meditation and chanting. He enjoys travel, theater and walking and biking along
the beachfront.
