Though
she’s always maintained a deep-rooted love of her birth state, Texas, Patience
spent her formative years in Southern California. Deciding that she wanted to
experience life on the east coast, she went to Johns Hopkins University for her
undergraduate education, receiving her B.A. in Psychology. While a student,
Patience worked to support her college’s fundraising efforts in several
capacities, first as a student caller and manager for the annual giving office
and then as an assistant in the vice president for advancement’s office. As a
financial aid recipient, Patience saw how vital the efforts of these offices
were to enabling students like herself to attend college and found a passion for
enabling others to share her experience through fundraising.
Upon graduation, Patience followed her passion to Pomona College where she
worked in the offices of Donor Relations and Foundation and Corporate Relations
until joining the Office of Annual Giving in 2006. As Associate Director, she is
responsible for initiating a new Young Alumni outreach program, coordinating the
Reunion Gift efforts for the 5th, 10th, and 15th Reunion classes, and serving as
the Annual Giving Representative on the Alumni Association Board, which enables
her to share knowledge of both Annual Giving philosophy and the experiences of
her office’s more than 300 alumni volunteers.
