Dodie
grew up in Los Angeles, having moved there with her family in 1963 from York,
PA, via Mexico City. After graduation in 1972 from Marlborough School, Dodie
came to Pomona College and studied art history, earning her B.A. in 1976. While
at Pomona, she was on the women’s basketball, volleyball and track teams and
managed the men’s track team for Coach Mulcahy.
In 1977, she moved to the South Bay and joined Xerox Corporation in El Segundo,
where she held various product marketing and customer administration positions.
During this time, Dodie was on the Pomona College Alumni Council for several
years, including a term on the executive committee working on career planning.
In 1988, she made the “big move” to Wellesley, MA, and worked as marketing
communications manager for several graphic arts and enterprise software
companies. During this time, she became active in local organizations, such as
the Rotary Club of Wellesley, Wellesley Historical Society and the Wellesley
Club. She also never lost contact with Pomona and served as the Alumni Chapter
Chair and helped organize alumni events in the New England area.
In 2004, after being laid off for the third time in five jobs, she began her
“second career” as Director of Communications and Community Outreach for the
fundraising department of Newton-Wellesley Hospital – an extremely rewarding and
fun experience. This position has given her the flexibility to serve on the
Pomona Alumni Board, which has been a wonderful way to stay connected with the
wider Pomona College community and “give back” to an institution that has played
such a significant role in her life.
Dodie still lives in Wellesley with her 14-year-old Springer Spaniel, Baxter,
whom she adopted in 2004.
