 John Graham elected to attend Pomona College, site unseen, after having
graduated high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Despite knowing very little about the
college in advance, his decision turned out for the best. In fact, Pomona was
not only responsible for providing John with a quality education, on-campus jobs
and an opportunity to give back as an alumni volunteer, but it also provided the
introduction to his future wife and fellow Sagehen, Kris Grant Graham.
After graduating from Pomona in 1986, John and Kris spent the summer traveling
around the United States. Trips to Europe and Australia ensued before the
responsibilities of careers and family took hold. For the past 17 years John has
worked as a financial advisor for Smith Barney and its predecessor firms. Living
and working in Claremont offers a number of benefits, including the ability to
stay connected to the college on a regular basis. Over the years, John has
served as Chair of the Pomona Valley Club, Alumni Weekend Chair, Alumni Council
Member and Pomonathon volunteer. He is excited to re-connect to the college as a
member of the Alumni Board after a hiatus of a few years during which his time
and energy was spent on raising his two daughters, Katie and Becky.
