Asian American Student Alliance (AASA)
The purpose of the Asian American Student Alliance (AASA) is to increase awareness of Asian American/Pacific Islander issues.  Activism on campus includes the focus of current political issues affecting the API community in the Claremont Colleges and the surrounding cities.  All students, staff, faculty, and administrators of the Claremont Colleges who are interesting in Asian American/ Pacific Islander issues are welcome to come and participate in activities and planning.  AASA follows a non-hierarchical format in order to encourage equal participation in the organization and to ensure that the voices of all members of the organization are heard (FMI:  ngarlapati@pomona.edu)

Asian. Asian American Student Union (A.AASU)
The Asian.Asian American Student Union is an organization comprised of students that provide opportunities or all Scripps students to expand and enrich their awareness and understanding of the Asian and Asian American community at the Claremont Colleges, specifically Scripps.  We work in conjunction with other student organizations in recognition of shared issues and experiences, as well as to create cross-cultural coalitions.  Students participating in A.AASU have the opportunity to express leadership and responsibility.  Through A.AASU, a group of 7 A.AASU Sponsors provide first years with support during their transition to the Scripps Community.  Go to the A.AASU website.   Visit the A.AASU LibraryRead the Latest on the A.AASU Coordinator Struggle. Tayong Kapatid
The purpose of Tayong Kapatid is to promote awareness of Pilipino/Pilipino American culture by educating those who are interested in learning more about Pilipino cultural heritage and history.  We provide support for anyone who wishes to become involved in the Pilipino/Pilipino American community.  Some of our club’s activities include:  going to concerts, celebrating holidays, eating and making Pilipino food, learning dances and songs, etc.  Tayong Kapatid is open to any member of the Claremont Colleges, faculty, students, and members of the surrounding community.  (FMI:  Iris Pablo ipablo@scrippscol.edu)

Vietnamese American Student Association (VASA)
The Vietnamese American student association of the Claremont colleges is dedicated to fostering an understanding and appreciation of Vietnamese culture both on campus and within the Los Angeles area.  The intent of our organization is to address issues pertaining to the Vietnamese community and to raise awareness of Vietnamese Americans among the Claremont College community.  (FMI:  Christine Nguyen, cnguyen@scrippscol.edu)

Nikkei Student Union (NSU)
The Nikkei Student Union’s mission is to promote at the 5-C’s the awareness and understanding of Japanese American culture.  The education and social events which the Nikkei Student Union sponsors are open to all who are interested.  NSU also actively participates in the efforts of the Intercollegiate Nikkei Council (INC) to promote discourse and activism among Japanese American youth in Southern California through youth conferences, volunteerism, and social activities.  (FMI:  Rosalyn Kawahira, rkawahir@scrippscol.edu)

Korean Student Association (KSA)
The five college Korean Student Association focuses on awareness of Korean American issues affecting the political and cultural identities of Korean American students as well as the general community seeking education and cultural awareness at the Claremont Colleges.  KSA also strives to work in connection with the greater Korean American community in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.  WE also work to raise general cultural awareness of historical and contemporary Korea and issues affecting the Korean American population as a whole. Hui Laule'a
Hui Laule’a, the Hawai’i Club of the Claremont Colleges, is a 5 College organization open to all interested students, staff, and faculty members of the Claremont Colleges.  The club strives to enrich the cultural and educational experiences of the Claremont Colleges, exposing the Claremont community to the Hawaiian subculture through events such as the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and the annual lu’au.  Our annual lu’au is our biggest events, attracting 400-600 people for a night of ono food, hula, dancing, music, and a great Hawaiian atmosphere.  This event usually takes place in April.  We also have other major events, such as Hawaiian barbecues, a trip to Disneyland, Halona Cabin, Hawaiian music concerts, and trips to other colleges lu’aus (including USC, UCLA, LMU, and UCSD).  For more information, contact Regan Tamura (x76895) or Mika Izutsu (x75320).

Hapas United
Hapas United is intended to help students of multi-racial backgrounds at the Claremont Colleges to find a group of peers who embrace and support their unique cultural diversity while encouraging friendships between races.  We are a new club and are actively seeking new members of all racial backgrounds.  This year we are going to have many activities such as study breaks, dinners, a hapa hip-hop party, discussion groups, a speaker series, and field trips.  (FMI:  Marisa Reardon,  mreardon@scrippscol.edu)
 

Chinese Student Association (CSA)
We welcome all people interested in Chinese culture to attend our events and join us on our outings.  This is a great way for you to bond with others who share your interests in learning about Chinese culture.  Besides, we eat plenty of good food and play fun games.  You know you want us.  (FMI:  Chris Day,  cday@pomona.edu)

Association of Southeast Asian Students (ASAS)
The Association of South Asian Students is a 5-College organization which celebrates the cultures of South Asia, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh, through its activities and events. In the past, ASAS has sponsored a Diwali dinner, a beach party, classical Indian dance performances, and study breaks featuring Indian movies. The group also participates in the International Festival and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Week. (FMI:  Niti Gupta, x72875)
