Pomona College invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the
modern history, society, politics, and culture of Northern
Africa to begin in the academic year 2010-2011 Research
interests must include Muslim society and extend beyond a
circumscribed national history and can make connections to
the Near East, sub-Saharan Africa, or the Mediterranean
basin. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory
courses as well as specialized seminars. Ph.D. expected by

Mathematics |
Pomona College seeks applicants
for a tenure-track position in the Mathematics Department,
to begin Fall semester 2010-11. Preference will be given to
candidates whose research specialty is in any area of
Statistics. While the position is targeted at the Assistant
Professor rank, others may be considered. We are looking for
candidates who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, and
who are interested in mentoring students and in directing
students in independent work. The strongest candidates will
have post-doctoral experience, have a strong research
agenda, and show significant progress in their research. It
is a priority of Pomona College and its Mathematics
Department to have faculty who have experience working with
students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated
commitment to improving access to and success in higher
education for underrepresented students.

Music |
|
Pomona
College is seeking an assistant professor to fill a
three-year replacement position in Ethnomusicology in the
Music Department from July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2013.
Candidates should hold the Ph.D. and show evidence of
ethnomusicological research as indicated by scholarly
presentations and publications. Area of specialization is
open. Preference will be given to candidates with at least
two years' teaching experience. The candidate should be
committed to working in an undergraduate liberal arts
environment. Responsibilities include teaching five courses
and supervising two non-Western ensembles taught by
specialists. Teaching load includes an introductory course
in World Music, a theory and methods course in
Ethnomusicology, and three additional courses based on the
candidate’s expertise and the department’s needs.
Experience teaching courses in music theory and aural skills
is desirable. If appropriate, leading a non-Western ensemble
may be considered part of the teaching load. Send letter of

Spanish |
|
Pomona College announces a tenure track
position in Spanish linguistics at the Assistant Professor
level, beginning July 1, 2010. Expertise in sociolinguistics
or applied linguistics highly desirable. We are especially
interested in candidates who could teach in one or more of
these sub-fields: phonetics, dialectology, history of the
Spanish language, Spanish second-language acquisition.
Applicants must have the Ph.D., by August 2010, in an
appropriate area of Spanish linguistics and a native or
near-native command of Spanish. The successful candidate
will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in both teaching
and scholarship within a diverse liberal arts environment
and be expected to teach four courses per year, including
linguistics and Spanish language at all levels. Salary will
