One and Two Year Positions
Linguistics & Cognitive Science
The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at Pomona College invites applications for two full-time, one-year positions for the 2009-10 academic year, one in Syntax and one in Semantics. The teaching load for each position is five courses for the year. One of the positions will require an interest and competence in cognitive science, and teaching of Introduction to Cognitive Science. Other courses will include Introduction to Linguistics; Syntax or Semantics; seminar in the area of specialization; and other courses such as psycholinguistics, morphology or field methods. Preferred candidates will have the Ph.D. in hand, but ABD will be considered. Candidates should submit an application letter, CV, teaching evaluations (if available), three letters of recommendation, and representative publications to karen.nightingale@pomona.edu with "Syntax/Semantics search" in the Subject line of the email. Linguistics & Cognitive Science

The preferred candidate will have the Ph.D. in hand, but ABD will be considered. Mathematics
Pomona College invites applications for two non-tenure track one-year positions.  The appointments will be as visiting assistant professors of mathematics to begin July 1, 2009. Duties will include teaching five one-semester mathematics courses and possibly directing senior projects. The ideal candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching and research and will be excited about mentoring students and directing student research. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and have a demonstrated commitment to improving access to and success in higher education for underrepresented students. A Ph.D. is required by the start date of the appointment.  All fields of Mathematics will be considered. Pomona College is a highly selective liberal arts college, near Los Angeles, with 1,500 students. It is a member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven institutions with over 50 active mathematicians. We prefer online applications submitted to MathJobs.Org.
