The
Claremont Colleges Intercollegiate Department of Africana
Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in Africana Studies. The
preferred area of expertise is political science, with an
emphasis on political theory and diasporic studies. Five
courses annually will be the teaching load for this
appointment. The successful candidate will be
responsible for teaching a two-semester introductory course
(survey + methods), the Senior Seminar, and additional
courses in the candidate’s field of expertise. He or she
will be expected to work collaboratively in an
intercollegiate and interdisciplinary setting. A Ph.D.
by the time of appointment is required and teaching
experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate
should have a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal
arts education and teaching, as well as the promise of a
productive research program. Send a letter of application,

sample syllabi, a brief description of your research,
reprints, and three letters of reference. The
appointment for this position will be to the Intercollegiate
Department of Africana Studies and to Scripps College.

Temporary Replacement Position (one
year, possibly two) in organic chemistry at the Visiting
Assistant Professor level, starting July/August 2010, to
teach introductory organic chemistry lecture and
laboratory. Ph.D. in chemistry required. Research
