Dear Sagehen,
Every five years, Pomona College has published an Alumni Directory in a
softbound book. Since the directory was practically out-of-date at the time of
distribution, an online version was created to complement the printed directory
in 2000. That online directory (which was updated weekly) was part of an online
alumni community in which users could search for alumni contact information as
well as create an e-mail forwarding address. While the thousands of alumni who
registered for the online alumni community found this site to be useful, there
were several limitations. In an effort to respond to alumni feedback, the
College is preparing to launch a new system.
Concurrent with the publication of this year’s new Alumni Directory, we will
debut an Alumni Portal system later this summer. The Alumni Portal is a web site
dedicated to better connect you with other alumni and the College, and will
offer enhanced search and e-mail forwarding capabilities over what is currently
available through the online community. The new online alumni directory will
allow users to search the most up-to-date contact information by not only first,
middle, last, and former names, but also by class year, major, city, state, and
country. The Portal’s new e-mail forwarding feature will allow you to create a
personalized @alumni.pomona.edu e-mail address that can forward messages to any
e-mail address you choose. For those of you who created an @alum.pomona.edu
address through the old online community, your e-mail will continue to be
forwarded as it always has, and you now have an @alumni.pomona.edu address set
up as an additional forwarding alias.
The Alumni Portal will also make it easier to update your contact information
with the College, select what information you want displayed to other alumni
searching the online directory, allow you to change or reset your own password,
and make a secure online gift to Pomona College. In the near future, the Portal
will also include an alumni events calendar and the Sagehen Career Advisors
Database that will provide business contact information of alumni willing to
offer career advice in their particular field.
Within the next couple months, you will receive a letter with more details about the new
Alumni Portal. That letter will also contain your personalized user ID,
temporary password, and instructions on how you can log on and start using the
Portal. We are very excited about this new, free benefit that will enable you to
stay connected with your friends, classmates, and the College.
