November 2005
Over the past few months, Pomona College has begun an
important process of strategic planning which will inform
the setting of priorities for the College over the coming
decade. As a first step in this process, seven faculty-led
task forces have begun exploring a set of “Strategic
Imperatives” and developing new ideas and plans in seven
areas where the College faces important questions and
decisions in the years to come. These seven areas include:
the Arts, Civic Engagement, Health and Fitness,
Interdisciplinary Programs, International Studies, Research
Culture, and Teaching and Learning. Descriptions of these
seven areas can be accessed via the links on this page.
The initial goal for each of the seven task forces has been
to prepare a draft report that will form the basis for
discussion at the Trustee-Faculty Retreat the last weekend
in February 2006. Based on those conversations, each task
force will revise and prepare a final report later this
spring. During the following academic year (2006-07) a
trustee-led strategic planning committee (with participation
from faculty, staff, and students) will integrate the work
of the task forces into an overall plan for the College.
As part of an ongoing conversation between Pomona College
and its extended family concerning the future of the
College, I would like to invite anyone with an interest in
Pomona’s future to review the descriptions of these seven
"strategic imperatives" and send us your comments and
suggestions. Please send your comments by e-mail to
president@pomona.edu,
or use the reply device linked to each of the seven
descriptions. All comments received by February 15, 2006,
will be forwarded to the appropriate faculty committees for
their review. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
David W. Oxtoby |
