What are personal-descriptor questions?
These are the more traditional questions, ones that people are used to answering.
Examples of personal-descriptor questions:
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Why are you interested in this field/organization?
- Where do you want to be five years from now?
- What is the most interesting thing you have done in the last two years?
Answers:
- Another version of this question is "Why should I hire you?" Generally, it is best to describe how your experiences have led you to this point. Perhaps start back about five years ago and work your way forward.
- Back up your strengths with examples and describe real weaknesses, but ones you're working to rectify.
- Here is the time to show the research you've done on yourself and on the employer.
- "In a leadership position in this organization." There's not much else you can say.
- Be honest and descriptive, but not verbose.
