Employment Agencies and Headhunters
These agencies can work in two ways:
- Find temporary employees for client companies.
- Find permanent employees for client companies.
Often, you can begin as a "temp" and
get hired on by the employer once you have proven yourself for a certain period of time.
It is best to check with the agency in advance to learn the period of time during which you
are considered an agency employee. In most cities, there are agencies that specialize in
different industries such as scientific work, entertainment, legal, etc. Approach agencies
involved in the areas that interest you. Most agencies charge the employer. We recommend
that you do not engage an agency that charges you.
Some employment agencies and headhunters will place you in a permanent position. Remember that all agencies work for the employer and may not have your best interests at heart. Make sure you ask a lot of questions. Most headhunters seek experienced people or those with specific technical skills. Be prepared for the fact that most headhunters will not give you any attention if you approach them. You can get the attention of this group by getting published in journals and trade publications, and by speaking at events.
