Development Assistant
Foundations and Corporate Relations and Donor Relations Offices
The members of the Office of Institutional Advancement
work to keep the relationships between the College and the members of
its extended family strong and active. We also help those who wish to
invest in Pomona's future find the most rewarding and effective ways to
do so.
Description:
This position is split between two offices in Pomona's Institutional
Advancement (IA) division, itself made up of the College's primary
fund-raising offices. You will engage in research and organization for
the Office of Foundation and Corporate Relations (F&CR), an office
responsible for identifying and soliciting foundation and corporate
grants that support Pomona's institutional priorities. Second, you will
assist the Office of Donor Relations (DR), primarily responsible for
providing informational reports about the College's use of
donor-restricted funds. Your efforts will help the College to recognize
and thank donors, investigate alumni connections, and promote and
strengthen ties between the College and its constituents including
alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and community friends.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying potential grant opportunities using online database
resources
- Working with campus departments to gather and organize reportable
institutional data
- Updating and maintaining foundation contacts and critical working
files
- Researching, compiling, and drafting descriptions about donors and
their descendants through Web and historical alumni file research
- Organizing information for the academic departments about funds
restricted for their use
- Refreshing and enhancing office Web sites
- Assisting with special event preparation (invitation designs and
mailings, reservations, general planning, and implementation)
- As well as any other office responsibilities that may arise
Qualifications:
- Interest in experiencing first-hand two career paths in development
work
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
- Discretion with confidential information and sensitive situations
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.)
- Web-based research and database experience a considerable plus
Salary Level:
$9.00/hr
Approximate Hours Per Week:
8 hours/week
