Senior Year Career Planning Checklist:
· Visit the CDO web and review the resume writing, CDO Site-ings, and other sections.
· It is time to become a 'regular' at the CDO - spend lots of time in the CDO library, on the CDO web, and stop into walk-in advising frequently.
· Obtain information about graduate and professional school opportunities and the required pre-professional tests and prepare for them.
· Attend the Career Fair & Conference, Non-Profit Forums, & Teacher Career Fair.
· Refine your interviewing skills. Purchase interview clothing appropriate for the fields you are seeking.
· Gather letters of recommendation from faculty, employers, etc.
· Talk with employers during career events and with alumni, people whom your professors recommend, and others. Be sure to follow-up.
· Get an internship in an organization you want to work for after graduation.
· Continue to investigate graduate school. Decide if you are going to apply now or later. If now, take tests and organize applications, complete essays...
· Make time to do a real job search - don't panic.
· Apply for fellowships early in your senior year.
· Network, network, and network. If you are not networking, you may not be working. Use the Alumni Career Advisor Database to talk with alumni professionals.
· If your interests have changed (and they often do) arrange for an internship in your new area of interest through PCIP in your senior year.
· Read every email from the CDO.
· Don't spend too long 'finding yourself' or searching for the 'perfect' job. Find an opportunity where you can learn. GET STARTED!!
