Internships
Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP)
The Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) offers
part-time internships each semester. The program helps Pomona students gain
work experience in an area of potential career interest while making a
meaningful contribution to the sponsoring organization.
About the Program
-
Participation is open to all currently enrolled Pomona
College students in good academic standing
-
Interns must complete a minimum of 60 hours during the
semester—internships generally require 6-15 hours per week for 10 weeks
- Interns must attend one PCIP workshop, meet once mid-semester to check in
with the Internship Coordinator, and submit a written evaluation and updated
resume at the end of the semester
How Do I Apply for PCIP?
- Attend a PCIP Information Meeting—look for dates and times in the
Fall or
Spring
Semester Schedules
- Review available PCIP internships for the semester—sponsor contact
information is available in the CDO
- Submit an application packet by the deadline—applications are available only from the
Internship Coordinator at the PCIP Information Meetings
- Interview the week following the application
deadline
- Internship matches are announced the week after interviews
- Internships will begin following a meeting/interview with the internship
sponsor
Will I Get Paid for My PCIP Internship?
The intent of the program is provide a learning experience. To enable all
students to participate, an hourly wage will be provided. A minimum of 60 hours must be completed. You will also
receive a set amount for travel based on the locations of your internship.
All interns submit timesheets on a regular basis.
Transportation Tips
Many internships can be accessed by bus, bike or metro. If
you need a car, but do not own one, you may want to look
into Flexcar. Flexcar is a car-sharing company that is now
available here in Claremont. Their low-emission,
fuel-efficient vehicles are conveniently available through
Pomona College if you meet their criteria and complete the
enrollment process. Once you are a Flexcar member, you may
reserve the cars, paying just a simple hourly rate that
includes gas, insurance and maintenance. It’s far less
expensive than owning and operating a car, and much more
convenient than renting.
If you are using Flexcar for the PCIP program, you are
eligible to have the annual registration and hourly fees
waived, in place of the travel reimbursement money you would
otherwise receive. Please talk to the Internship
Coordinator, Audrey Gustafson, if you are interested.
