Length: 1000 - 1600 "jargon-free" words
  • Manuscripts must be exclusive.
  • "Articles should adopt a clear point of view, not simply review both sides of a debate. In most cases, they benefit from the inclusion of specific recommendations for ways to solve the problems they outline."
  • "Articles should be written in a clear, informal style that is free of jargon and can be easily understood by all of our readers. We also caution writers to be careful to check, and have sources for, the factual information and quotations that they include in articles."
  • Opinion pieces should contain no subheads, footnotes, graphs, tables, or other illustrations.
  • All submissions are acknowledged with a postcard. The decision to accept or reject a manuscript rarely takes more than a month. Manuscripts are returned if they are accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
  • "All commentary pieces are edited to conform to the paper's editorial style and standards of readability. The author has an opportunity to review and approve the edited version before it appears in print. The paper will mail each author two copies of the issue in which the piece appears."
